SECTION I - GENERAL INFORMATION
PAF Grant Type
Indicate whether you are applying for an initial
PAF research grant or for a PAF continuation studies grant.
Continuation studies grant applicants must include a Progress
Report* in Section II of the application.
Description and Personnel
Describe briefly the overall research program, indicate
the emphasis of the component research projects, and identify
the purpose of each proposed area of study. List the key scientific
and technical personnel participating in the program.
Biographical Sketch
Biographical sketches are required for all key scientific
and technical personnel participating in the research projects.
Submit biographical sketches containing essential information
describing the qualifications of all key research personnel.
Resources
Briefly describe the features of the institutional
environment that are or would be relevant to the effective
implementation of the proposed program. As appropriate, describe
available resources, such as clinical and laboratory facilities,
participating and affiliated units, patient or laboratory
animal populations, geographical distribution of space and
personnel, and consultative resources.
SECTION II - RESEARCH PLAN
Research Project Description
Each research project within the proposed program
of study should include the following identifying information:
- Project Title
- Project number (I,II,III etc.)
- Project Principal Investigator, title, location
- Other investigators, consultants, and collaborators,
titles (Associate Professor, Postdoctoral Fellow, student).
Research Project Plan
Provide detailed information about each project by
addressing the following:
- Specific Aims/Objectives
- Significance to PA patients
- Preliminary Studies if applicable (for continuation grant
applications see
Progress Report* below)
- Research Design. Indicate methods, hypotheses, experimental
procedures and protocols to be used.
- Use of Human Subjects. This section must address the
use of children as research subjects if applicable.
- Use of Vertebrate Animals
Timeline
Show a proposed timeline for individual research
projects to be implemented.
*Progress Report
For continuation grant applications a progress report
should be included. Include pertinent data obtained during
the current grant period.
Publications
List relevant publications prepared during the past
five-year period. For continuation applications, list research
articles submitted during the current grant period whether
published or in press.
Assurances and Collaborative Agreements
Any arrangements for collaborative and cooperative
endeavors or subcontracting should be highlighted. Letters
of Intent to Collaborate and Letters of Agreement from consultants
should be referenced here.
SECTION III - BUDGET
Budget Estimates
A budget for each research project should be submitted.
Present the total direct cost estimate for all categories
of requested support. For each category, such as "PERSONNEL,"
"EQUIPMENT," etc., list the amount requested per
each research project for the:
- First year
- Total proposed project period if longer than 1 year in
scope.
Budget Justifications
Describe the specific functions of key scientific
and technical personnel, consultants, collaborators and support
staff participating in each project.
Summary of Other Support
Information regarding active and pending research
support of all key scientific and technical personnel should
be indicated. Identify other support for the proposed project(s)
in the following categories: Current Active Support; and Applications
Pending Review or Funding. List each current grant for support
of this research. If there are no other grants, indicate "none."
All PAF Research Funding Proposals will be reviewed by the
PAF Medical Advisory Board and by the PAF Board of Directors.
Review queries and comments will be addressed to applicants
prior to funding by PAF.
